Industry veteran, George Abernathy, steps into the Chairman role to advance the pursuit of optimality in freight procurement through technology, data and market connectivity.
Scottsdale, AZ October 27, 2026 –(PR.com)– Emerge, a technology company focused on transforming freight procurement, today announced the appointment of George Abernathy as Chairman of its Board of Directors. Abernathy has served on the Emerge board since 2020 and previously served as the company’s President. He brings decades of experience spanning freight transportation, logistics, commercial strategy and technology, united by a longstanding commitment to solving one of the industry’s most consequential challenges: achieving optimal outcomes in freight procurement.
“I want to thank Andrew and Michael Leto for building this company, and the Board for its trust in asking me to lead it. I am excited about Mark McEntire’s leadership and guidance, which comes at exactly the right time for Emerge,” said Abernathy. “For nearly three decades, I have been pursuing what I think of as optimality in freight procurement: the idea that the industry should be able to bring together the trusted right capacity, at the right price, at the right time, with the right information and incentives for everyone involved. Emerge is where that comes together.”
Throughout his career, Abernathy has worked across the transportation and logistics ecosystem, developing a firsthand understanding of the complexities that shippers, carriers and logistics providers face in an increasingly dynamic freight market. He served as President of Transplace, now part of Uber Freight, during the company’s rise to a top 3PL managing billions in North American freight spend, and as the first President of FreightWaves (SONAR), where he led all revenue and commercial efforts. Today he is also a Senior Partner at Venture 53, a Strategic Advisor to NewRoad Capital Partners and a Board Member of The Tranco Group in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His work has been driven by a consistent conviction that better information, smarter technology and more effective market mechanisms can fundamentally improve the way transportation capacity is sourced, priced and managed. That conviction is what Emerge was built on.
Abernathy sees Emerge as positioned to help shippers make more informed sourcing decisions while creating a more effective connection between transportation demand and available capacity.
“Freight is too important to the economy, and procurement is too consequential to supply chain performance, for us to accept unnecessary friction, information gaps and inefficiencies as simply the cost of doing business,” Abernathy added. “Technology creates an opportunity to do substantially better. The next chapter of freight procurement will be defined by how effectively we combine industry expertise, trusted relationships, data and technology, and Emerge is where that combination is being built.”
“George helped lead the top technology-forward 3PL in North America, built through organic growth and strategic acquisitions, and he has always been one of the industry’s loudest voices for technology-driven efficiency and customer-driven value. Very few people understand both how large shippers buy freight and how freight technology companies grow, and he is one of them. He knows our customers, our carriers and our team, and that is the perspective we want leading the board as we scale,” said Mark McEntire, Chief Executive Officer of Emerge.
As Chairman, Abernathy will work with Emerge’s board and leadership team to support the company’s strategic direction, strengthen its long-term positioning and help guide its continued development in a rapidly evolving freight and technology landscape.
His appointment comes as shippers and transportation providers continue to seek more effective ways to manage transportation costs, improve procurement decisions and navigate market volatility, and during a period of significant revenue growth and expansion for Emerge, which recently added air, ocean and LTL RFP support to ProcureOS Pro.
